Vermont is so nauseatingly politically correct that if you actually said that you don't believe in mermaids to her you'd be chastised by the community for not respecting her religious views. I met someone who claimed that the owls talk to her and that she can cure your illnesses if she beats on a drum with her eyes closed. This person was one of my former college professors. :P
