Rumour: Hotel Dusk 2 being developed.

Post by Ash »

This has not actually been confirmed anywhere as far as I know, but it seems like a DS sequel to Hotel Dusk called Last Window: Mayonaka no Yakusoku (English translation Last Window: Midnight Promise) is currently in development. Apparently the game will take place in Los Angeles during the 1980's. The game is currently rumoured to have a release date of 14th of January in Japan.

I endorse this rumour.
What you call love was invented by guys like me, to sell nylons. You're born alone and you die alone and this world just drops a bunch of rules on top of you to make you forget those facts. But I never forget. I'm living like there's no tomorrow, because there isn't one.

Good news :)

Hotel Dusk was Cing at its best (I would consider Little King's Story more of a Yoshiro Kimura game than a Cing game), let's see what they do with the sequel.
I thought they might do what they did with Another Code and release it on Wii, but I guess DS really needs these games (I should say, haven't touched mine in months :? )

Some more information:
I'm going to take a stab at the Last Window impressions, since no one else seems to have bothered translating it.

Basically the retailer staffer posting about the game gives a rundown on the new features of the sequel, while talking about various interface improvements from the first game. In general the game is very similar to the original in terms of visual and audio style, and fans of the original will feel right at home. The game takes place a year after the original, and is set in 1980 in Los Angeles. The setting of the sequel is in the Cape West Apartments. The story in the sequel stands alone from the previous games, even though there might be connections that fans of the original can pick up on. Those who have not played the original will not feel particularly lost in this game.

The main character is still Kyle, and he's still a dick. It's all good though, because fans will probably not have it any other way. There are two major additions to the sequel he mentions. One is the ignore function. In the original game, progression is pretty much always made when you butt into other people's problems in conversations, etc. In the sequel, more attention will have to be paid when you decide whether you want to butt in or to ignore something, because there is a possibility of getting a game over if you butt into everything. At least, that's what I think he's saying.

As for the other major feature, there is a novel inside the game called "Last Window" as well. It is a companion piece to the game, and a chapter unlocks each time you clear a story chapter. The novel will touch in various sub-scenarios which flesh out the events of the game outside of Kyle's immediate adventure, and involves the overall setting in the game and the other characters. Apparently the contents of the novel (which I assume is actually being 'written' as you play the game) is influenced by your choices in the game itself, so there is replay value in trying to discover all the "variations" in the novel.

He also mentions that the game supports the rumble cart, and that it has 3 save slots.

Cing is the best developer no one knows for Handhelds/Consoles.
Not one single bad game and everyone AAA quality but criminally ignored.

HD and AA best DS games IMO.

Just a warning, the game has been leaked on to the Internet, so please be wary of spoilers floating around.

Apparently, the next Nintendo Power is due to have an article on "Last Window, Midnight Promise".

Pre release trailer spoilers, and speculation:
Spoiler: (Highlight to read)
Just watched some of the trailers on Youtube, including the introduction....I wonder why Ed's so angry? Kyle's obviously surprised by Ed's outburst. Rachel doesn't seem happy, but she also doesn't seem surprised. That call that came in while Kyle was sleeping in his car may have something to do with it.

Kyle does actually seem to have mellowed out a little. I can't understand what he's saying, but in the video where he meets Steve, his body language seems more open and less guarded (he even smiles) compared to the way he acted in Hotel Dusk. This could be down to the fact that the animation looks a lot more fluid though. (At least in my opinion.)

Sorry for yet another double post....

Last Window's been out for a little while now, and some people have already completed it. So far, the "reviews" seem to all be positive, with some saying that Last Window is better than Hotel Dusk.

The new ignore feature is used throughout the game, not just once or twice at the start of the game, then forgotten about.
Kyle Hyde is apparently much more pleasant in this game than he was throughout most of Hotel Dusk, but a couple of players think that may partly be down to the Japanese language.
Last Window is roughly around the same length as Hotel Dusk.

In the first week, Last Window sold 25,000 units, coming seventh place in the chart.

Also, some of you may be interested in this video, it's a short documentary about the art used in Last Window. I can't really understand what's being said, but as far as I know, there are no spoilers.
