More news about Gyakuten Saiban 5:

It's basically being developed by the Investigations team. Takumi will not have a major role in the development.

It will come out on 3DS.

Already confirmed for a Western release, however there are currently no release dates for any country.

Phoenix will be the main character, but Eshiro (the producer) has a made a point of the fact that Apollo Justice has not been retconned.

Some minor plot points released as publicity:
Spoiler: (Highlight to read)
There will be a new side-kick; Maya is apparently in training in Kurain.

This game will take place one year after Apollo Justice.

The first case will be about a bombing in the Courthouse.

Payne's younger brother is the first prosecutor.

The theme of the story is "dark days for the law"; this is following from Phoenix's comment in case four of Apollo Justice. The chain on Phoenix's jacket is from the locket that has Trucy's picture in it.
There will be more information released during TGS.

I'm looking forward to it despite still being upset at Capcom for not giving us AAI2 ... Also I realized I never gave you my thoughts on AAI. But now it's been so long since I've played it. I enjoyed it but didn't find it up to the same level as the others. Enjoyed it enough to still want AAI2 though.

Kinda lame they decided to bench Apollo though for the more popular Phoenix.

I was hoping for Apollo myself. Investigations (for me at least) proved why it was time to move to a new cast; there isn't really any else to go with the Phoenix-era cast.
Spoiler: (Highlight to read)
Edgeworths' inner dilemma, it was already covered in the main series, and to me it felt like it was just re-treading old ground, and that somehow seemed to affect the original Investigations characters.

That said there is now seven years that we know little about. I'd also be interested in if we get to see any of Phoenix's thoughts on the events of AA5....despite whatever intentions he had (and those could be called into question) he stepped over the line, and broke his own moral code.

And of course, with Eshiro making such a point of the fact that Apollo Justice hasn't been retconned, there's could be a chance of a case/s where Apollo is the playable character.

Sorry for the double post...

There's a subbed trailer up now - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RtEWAK_YcAo. I found it interesting how the mentions of a "dark time coming for law" and "I'll bring around the turnabout" appeared at the same time as the shadow of the main prosecutor (assuming this trailer is like previous trailers).

Some other plot related information:
Spoiler: (Highlight to read)
The new assistant is a new attorney at Phoenix's office. She has the ability to read the emotions of witnesses.

The defendant in the first case is apparently an old friend of the new assistant.

There is a scene where Phoenix is talking on the phone to someone, telling them that the person they've (the mystery person) been chasing is making a move. There is also a scene where Phoenix is staring at Trucy's picture in his locket.

Nice! So his new assistant is like Deanna Troi from Star Trek TNG then.

I think she uses a computer to read witness emotions, but yes, basically. :P One new mechanic is that you'll be able to tell when a witness's emotions doesn't match up with their testimony.

That's interesting, but

I wonder how well that will work when she comes across a truly psychopathic person like most villainous masterminds are. :o

Note: If you do want to avoid all information about Gyakuten 5, you may not want to read this:

The official site has been updated:

Looks like Apollo is still going to be an important character, though he looks considerably more serious here. There's speculation that Apollo may be linked to the main prosecutor, since the silhouette in the trailer looks like it could be wearing a similar jacket, if Apollo himself isn't the prosecutor, it doesn't look like he's wearing his badge, but then he is being shown with Phoenix and the new side-kick....

Phoenix is like Paul Scholes, aka still the best but should probably step aside, be rewarded with a happy ending and let some new talent step up

I'm playing through it now, just started case three.

I'm enjoying it, but....I don't know, it does sort of feel like something is missing?

I do like the relationship between Fulbright (the new detective) and Blackquill (the new prosecutor). It's definitely different from Gumshoe's relationship with Edgeworth, Franziska and Godot, or Ema's relationship with Klavier. Fulbright's enthusiasm is endearing, but I can also see it starting to wear a little...have to see how much of a role he has in later cases. Blackquill so far doesn't really stand out amongst the other prosecutors, but he does have his amusing moments.

Double post again, sorry.

Finished it last night....I'm not disappointed by any means, but at the same time, I can't really think of many good things to say about AA5, in comparison to the other AA games. :?

I'll wait until the DLC case comes out before posting any in-depth impressions, the DLC case is supposed to be quite impressive, and I'm hoping that it may lessen an issue I had with the final case.
