What's your dream?

If you could have anything that could make your life feel whole or complete, what would it be?

Sounds stupid, but to me, my dream is to not have to work or worry about money , and be able to live a stress free life, volunteering for non-profit organizations. I would love to be able to stay home with my kids when I have them, so they are raised as I would see fit(until they get to school age; I think homeschool is a bad idea), rather than having to have them go to daycare. Also, I'd be able to write when I want, create games when I want, play music when I want, and create music videos when I want, completely for public domain, available for free for people to enjoy.

For me, money is a necessity and would be great to have in large quantities but that isn't what would make life complete. Sure I'd like to have enough to live without financial worries but beyond that, thinking about money all the time doesn't interest me. I don't understand how some people can dedicate their entire lives in the sole aim of acquiring money and status. I don't find satisfaction in that.

I just want to screw with people's minds.

I want to turn people's perceptions upside down. To make people see that there is no such thing as absolutes and that there are always possibilities yet to be considered. I want hypocrites to face their faults, rather than cover them up or blame someone else. I want bullies and morons out of positions of authority and authority checked-- level the playing field, so to speak. I want meritocracy and collaboration-- not nepotism and cutthroat competition. I want to make people see beyond their own little bubbles and to see the world as it is, without relying on dogma or popular prejudices.

Now if only I had the ambition and capability, then it should all be a piece of cake.

^So you want to be an artist? That's like all they ever talk about in classes. XD

I like Jameson's dream and all, but then again, superman powers would be pretty fuckin' nifty. :hmm:

Actually I really want to go into space and explore new worlds. That's been my dream for a long time. I imagine it like Star Trek and also like Skies of Arcadia, but in space. Yeah, that's the good stuff. I often wish I pursued science and/or engineering instead of art.

Actually I find a lot of similarities in art and science, especially in how you approach a problem. There only difference is scientific knowledge is built upon while art is an occurrence can never be duplicated. Both are collaborative. I also have an interest in science and perhaps if things happened differently (like, if I met the right people or maybe even grew a mathematically inclined brain) I might have pursued science. Sometimes I'm rather jealous of scientists as they're the ones learning about things that nobody else has ever known about. I still would probably have taken an interest in art anyway though. I just imagine an alternate me in a parallel universe doing just that. 8-)

Yes, super powers would definitely go a long way toward making my life complete, as well. If I had super powers, I definitely wouldn't hold a normal job like Superman did. I'd find some super human way to use my powers, like being a bounty hunter or something! I know that I could be a bounty hunter now, but I'm really tiny and not intimidating, and a bit too scared of getting killed.

I wish at times I had gone into science as well. I remember being a little kid, and seeing Back To The Future, and wanting to make a time machine. So I took a cardboard box, strapped my atari 2600 to it, and used my dad's multi-meter as the flux capacitor. It didn't work.

Ha, just like Calvin and Hobbes.

I feel very scientifically minded and I'm getting pretty sick of my art degree. I want to learn how to do things not how to make statements with some weird pretentious bullshit. I'm a problem solver and a craftsman more than anything. And it's not that I just want to create meaningless fluff art, I just don't want to be hit over the head with this nonsense in every single class I'm in especially when I'm dealing with new mediums that I've never used before. I'm in school to learn skills, not open a gallery. /rant :theyreontome:

Ugh, same here. I can't stand bs critiques and professors who encourage them  I've already learned that fine art is definitely not for me.

Fortunately I have had some teachers that were very knowledgeable and inspirational and gave me none of the fluff I find in other teachers, so I know at least that I don't have to be a pretentious navel gazer to be an artist; I can still combine my interests in art and science.

Have you ever taken a class in product/industrial design? I think you would enjoy it.

I think having kick ass drawing/painting/sculpting skills can count as a super power

Sadly even my best teachers in this program are all about this artsy nonsense. It's funny how I always make fun of majoring in art while I'm majoring in art. I haven't taken any of those classes yet. I should think about it. But I remember initially debating between this digital arts program and a graphic design program. I feel that the graphic design program might be closer to the environment I wanted, but unfortunately it's a limited skill set. Oh well, I must persevere. 8-) (In a better mood now cause I finally got that project that's due today done, but not at the expense of only having 4 hours of sleep. OH GOD I'M SO TIRED.)

(Also I agree about that being a super power!)

AG, I think your dream will come true one day.

Speaking of death, I''m very curious as to what happens next after this life. And maybe even before.

Not that I'm in any rush to find out. I'm not finished yet.

You guys have such lofty and impressive dreams! Mine's probably just born out of laziness and fear of mediocrity.

I've decided though, that if being at home is the only way I can be happy, then I need to start working toward it. I need to work toward becoming a writer again. It's a lot easier to become published these days than it used to be. I figure hey, if Stephanie Meyer can do it, why can't I? :-D

I know Barnes and Noble has a thing you can do where you basically publish yourself, and it submits your book to their ebook library for people to buy for a cheap price. Just need to get through my last semester of school and I can start working toward it.

Pop in!

It pretty much boils down to... to be able to say something worthwhile to someone, something that actually matters. People say a lot of words, but most of it, is, pure and simple, filler.

Interesting thread, good read.

EDIT:

I really hope it's nothing. I don't think I could take it.

Pop out! :D

^That's a good goal. It's interesting that most people's goals or dreams have something to do with doing something meaningful, or having some lasting effect on something. I think I'm exactly the opposite. I don't know if it had to do with me switching schools a lot as a kid, growing up with a stay at home mom so I never had to go to a daycare, or what, but I have always tried to make as little of an impact on people as possible. I think it's so that if I had to leave at some point, it would be as easy as possible. I have all these ideas for stories I want to write, games I want to make, etc, but I don't really want them to become widespread.

I'm perfectly happy with doing them for myself, and maybe bringing something to the people around me. I guess that's why I have 7 or more anime/video game music videos, and have never put them on youtube or anything. They have been posted on the dojo sites, but I don't really go out of my way to promote them or anything. I guess you can say I want to leave an impression on the people around me, but even that feels liek too much sometimes. I'm a weirdass dude.

Bay that's a an interesting dream. Dalai Lama comes to mind, not that it would have to have anything to do with religion but he does alot of saying meaningfull stuff in general.

Agent of Fortune: I'm a bit like you. I would also like to not have to work or worry about money. Work is a huge stress factor in my life and sometimes it's also what makes me depressed and anxious, it also steals alot of my energy that could've been better spent on something else. I hate that it has so much power over my life. There are so much fun "work" one could do but those that would give me the most meaning is the kind you can't make a living on.

Volunteering for non-profit organizations or even start a new one or just devote my life to helping others both humans and animals is also a dream of mine. Sure you can help alot without having tons of money but having alot of money is definitely a way to really make a change. I even have a project I'd love to pursue. It would be great to be able to do something and not have to care about it generating any money.

@AoF: The point about keeping stuff under wraps... not wanting it to become widespread. That's a really double edged sword, don't you think? Like keeping it under control has the capacity to make the message clear and precise and making it 'heart to heart' so to speak, but at the same time, in some ways you're not allowing the thing that you made to be seen by people to whom it could really make a difference.

@darkly and AoF: Dalai Lama... right. I can only hope. Haha. :err: But, it's not so much about you being remembered as it is about transfer of knowledge, of skill, of energy. You being in the equation is just cravy. Nice to have, never necessary. It would just be too egocentric. You should never be an integral part of it, if you are, it's not real. Also it would remove the two-way-street type structure of it. If you know you made a difference, a difference was also made to you. Stare into the abyss and all that. In any case, it's not so much about giving people fish, but rather teaching them to fish (and them teaching you, but in another way, by the way). If they remember who thought them, good, if they don't it's ok, as long as they still know how to fish. Otherwise in 100 years, we'll have to do this all over again. :D

But, on the stress factor issue, life wise... it's worth getting out of. Like the saying goes, "If you like your job, you haven't worked a day in your life." It's f'ing true. I've always believed it, now I know it's true. When you have a chance of doing something you love, there's nothing better, as far as jobs go. There can still be stress, a lot of stress, :argh: but it's not the same. It's just not.
