A Tribute to Bysby

Bysby is one of my best friends. I’ve known him since 2004 when I was drawn into a project that became the Hazuki Dojo. About a year ago he suffered a stroke and disappeared from the internet for about a month. When he came back he was in pain often and didn’t stay online long. Then finally around mid December he stopped showing up online at all. There’s no way to know where he went or what happened to him. He was more introverted and private than me.

When I first met him and was contributing to his work, all I can say is that he had the detail and talent of a pro. I truly believed in his potential despite the self doubt he expressed about his work. Bysby would always be the first person I would show any new artistic creation to because he was the most honest in his criticisms. He would always find something to be improved upon in anything I showed him. I’d show him something, get feedback, fix it, show him again, and repeat. It could go on for days like this.

Bysby and I would often play video games or watch anime at the same time so we could talk about it as we went on. Since he lives in the United Kingdom and I on the west coast of the United States, this would seem to pose a challenge, but the man never slept.

His disappearance continues to haunt me in my dreams. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had a dream where he would simply come back online and have some kind of logical explanation for his absence. In fact, I just had a dream like that which is why I’m up at 3am writing this.

The sad fact is that unless he comes back, we’ll probably never know for sure what happened to him. His friendship is very important to me and I probably never told him that. I’ve never been very good at expressing how I feel but I do take my friendships seriously; even the online ones.

Here’s to Bysby, wherever he may be.

Same here.
I Considered him a real friend even though we only got to speak "online".
He helped me in so many ways and we exchanged some good times as much as we could through the barrier between the sea.
I have often gave thought what happened and always feared the worst.
I don't care what happened if he just pops up one day and returns to his normal jibber jabber and being the guy we all love.

Ah heck we all know he just found his bed under all those burned anime DVD's and took the biggest power nap and will wake up posting in this topic with one of these Image

He did do something I never thought twice about then when he came back briefly,he sent me a folder with much of his past work on sigs and wallpapers, now I wonder why..did he know something or am i looking to far into it,I may never know.

In any case this dance is for you big guy.

Damn, I had completely forgotten that he had disappeared. And still no sign of him? I really wish he would come back so he could see how much his friends have grown as people, I know kupo has been telling me multiple times that alot has changed in his life, and I know my life has changed alot in the past year, all for the better. I remember the days when we would all be playing games together and goofing off, being retarded in the IRC chat etc. bysby was always the tech guy to go to and he would always help you out, even if it was just a question about a game he had played. Kupo, chaos, bybsy and ryudo were probably my closest onilne friends that ive known for years now, we have had many good times in the past, and the future wont be the same with out our buddy bysby. I hope we see him again some day, but knowing bysby's habits I am pretty sure we would have seen him online by now, where ever he is I just hope hes not suffering or worse like stuck in a hospital bed. Raise your glass to our good friend!

I only knew him for a couple years, but he was a great guy. He was definitely the shyest and most introverted of the people in our little group, but that's not saying too much when it's us we're talking about. :err: Our little chats will never be the same without him. The thing I miss most are our daily worms/carcassonne matches between Bysby, Yukio, and me.

This picture was taken by Bysby, and was one of the last things I remember doing with him before he disappeared the first time. The three of us decided to set up as many mines as possible in worms and then detonate them all at once. It froze all three of our 360s on that exact screen.

wherever you are... *salute*

This community has had a special place in my life for it has joined fans from all over in the glory of a now distant past and in a hope of a better future. Going a step further, there has always been a strong feeling of belonging and camaraderie that went over something as trivial as videogame preferences.

I can't say that I've had many colloquies with Bysby apart from the Dojo Foren, although that can be said in relation to most other dojoites. My apologies. However I've always sensed, from the vast waves of admiration that he attracted, that he was a pivotal member of this our community.

Friend of a friend, I am obviously moved by the fact that his prolonged absense has brought about a great deal of weeping and gnashing of teeth. As a community we must brave together adversity and care for our own.

With a great deal of respect, I hope that all is well with Bysby and that he shall drop us a kind line or two, soon!

Here's waiting... : )

It's really amazing how close a group of people, that never had met in person, can become.... I haven't played Shenmue in years, but I will probably always be around this community just for the personality.

God Speed, Bysby. I hope to see your return.

I never got to talk to Bysby too much in my travels in the shenmue world, but he was always a great person to hear from. I was always amazed by his photoshop skills, and he helped me with some php when it came to setting up a website a few years ago.

Here's to you, sir. I hope to see you again someday.
